Seek Guidance by the Spirit

Posted on

For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

Romans 8:14

The Holy Spirit lives in the believer for the purpose of guiding us through life. The Spirit will place thoughts in our minds and change the desires of our hearts, but we must be still inside to follow the Spirit.  The more we know the Word, the language of God, the more will we live by the Spirit.

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. (John 14:26) Jesus said these words to his apostles just before he was crucified and returned to the Father. The Spirit will remind us of the Word, however we must know the Word so the Spirit can remind us at the right time.  When ministering to others, our words may be meaningless unless they are validated by the scripture.

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. (John 16:13) Christ lives in our hearts and He speaks to us through the Spirit, and we speak through the Spirit to Christ. Christ gives us his love, power, and he guides us through every detail of our life.

It’s important that we stay connected to Christ through our day, showing that we are dependent on His divine guidance.  We are a light for Christ and we ask the Lord to guide our thoughts and words as we reflect Jesus to the world. We pray for the Lord’s guidance during the day because we could miss the Spirit’s guidance based what is yet to come.  Our life is much better if we depend on Christ to control our thoughts, words, and actions; because he will keep in the middle of the narrow road to life.

The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand. (Psalm 37:23-24) If we seek the guidance from the Lord, we will not fall because the Lord is with us and He will uphold us. If we truly depend on the Lord, we will seek his guidance throughout our day. Remember Christ is God and he knows the future, while we are his servants, and even though we plan our days, we don’t know exactly what will happen.

Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. (Proverbs 3:7) When we are wise in our own eyes, we are prideful and do not depend on the Lord. Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. (Isaiah 40:28) If we really know the Lord, then how can we not depend on His guidance as we go through our days?

Today seek guidance from the Spirit in everything. Reflect Jesus to everyone in your driving, in your work, with family, and when interfacing with people. Reflect God’s love, compassion, patience, and care to everyone.

Prayer: Lord guide me in the Spirit today and help me to be still inside. Help me to reflect Jesus to everyone, showing your love, peace, joy, and patience. In Jesus name, Amen
