Seeing God Everywhere

Posted on

Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them?" declares the Lord. "Do not I fill heaven and earth?" declares the Lord.

Jeremiah 23:24

If God is the creator of all things and he fills the heavens and the earth, then shouldn’t we be able to see his presence in all creation. If we are conscious of seeing God in all things and knowing all good things come from God, then we will see the world through spiritual eyes. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (James 1:17) Seeing God in everything gives a feeling of comfort and security, because we know he is sovereign over all creation.

Before we determine how to see God in everything, let’s note how easy it is to Satan in this world. We see Satan in this world when we hear about shootings, killing of Christians, and even road rage. We can immediately associate evil events to Satan and his demons. So why is difficult to see God in this world?

If we could see the spiritual world what would we see? For God’s people we might see the Holy Spirit and we would probably see angels nearby. But we cannot see into the spiritual dimension, but we can see the effect God has on the world. We see our Lord when we encounter Godly loving people guided by the Spirit. But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness (Romans 8:10). God is love, therefore when we see loving caring behavior we see God. When we see couples in love and people helping people we see God, when we see a child in the loving presence of the mother or father, we see God. When we see the beauty of creation we see God. The main reason we don’t see God is because we are not looking, but we see Satan because evil events are shoved in our face through television, news paper, and radio.

We can train ourselves not to overlook what we see every day, but to be spiritually minded and look for God’s presence in people and in the beauty of the world. Seek the Lord and his strength; Seek his face continually. (1 Chronicles 16:11) Seek to see God everywhere because he is everywhere, even if you have to look inside to the Spirit. Life will be more peaceful because when we see God everywhere it reminds us that he is sovereign over all the earth.

Today slow down and be mindful of seeing God everywhere. See God when you see love, when you see the beauty of creation, and when you see orderly behavior. Enable people to see God in you by exhibiting Christ-like behavior. Note the peace and comfort that comes into your life when we seek God.

Prayer: Lord, help me see your presence in all things, to seek your heart and love in this world. Let the light in this world remind me that you are the true Light. Open my spiritual eyes to see beyond the world and into eternity. Thank you for revealing yourself through your Word, through Christ, through the Holy Spirit, and through your creation. Forever draw me closer to you. In Jesus name, Amen
