Do We See God Changing Us?

Posted on

For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

Romans 8:29

God is always changing us to conform to the image of his Son, up to our last breath. Do you know the changes that need to be made in your life, and do you see how God is making those changes? And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28). From this verse we can be certain that God will use everything in our lives to make us more Christ-like.

Knowing he is changing us to be Christ-like enables us to use our present circumstances to reflect Christ, thus becoming more Christ-like. We now learn to use every moment in life to conform to the likeness of his Son. Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did (1 John 2:6). The more we seek to know Christ, the more we become Christ-like.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will (Romans 12:2). Through reading the Word, praying, fellowship with other Christians, and obedience to his will, our minds are renewed and our hearts change to the mind and heart of Jesus. If we have the mind and heart of Jesus, then we will naturally live as Jesus did.

If you love me, keep my commands (John 14:15). Jesus lived the perfect life doing the Fathers will, because he had perfect love for the Father. We obey Christ’s will because of our love, but we cannot obey perfectly because our love is not perfect. God knows this and that is why we have grace, forgiveness through Christ. Our imperfection keeps us from conforming to the exact likeness of his Son, but it never keeps us from becoming more like his Son.

We continue serving the Lord to the best of our abilities, becoming more Christ-like with guidance from the Holy Spirit. The more we are motivated to grow spiritually closer to the Lord, the more Christ-like we become. It pleases the Lord to know that we are highly motivated to serve him, to be like him, to know him, and to be with him forever. In addition to our own motivation, we have God’s infinite divine power to help us to be Christ-like.

The changes you will see in yourself are: More faith, more love driving you to minister to others, more interest in the things of God than in the things of the world, spending more time reading the Word and in prayer, a strong desire to fellowship with Christian brothers and sisters, and a growing desire to know and be closer to our Lord. As you spiritually grow, these changes increase in your life and will be easily noticed. Your life will be more meaningful and rewarding.

Seeking for the Lord to reveal his next divine understanding is an exciting event in our lives. A divine understanding often changes us and/or gives us new Godly wisdom to teach to others. Walking with the Lord with a high motivation and seeking to be a light to the world brings us closer to the Lord and makes life exciting, adventurous, and fulfilling. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10). God’s promise of abundant life is absolutely true.

Today take time to notice how God is using your current situation to mold you to be more Christ-like. Seek to be Christ-like in your thoughts, words, and actions. Over time you will reflect Christ, knowing that God has a unique plan for your life. As a result you will reflect the person God created you to be.

Let’s Pray: Lord, motivate me to become more Christ-like and help me to understand the changes you are making in me. Guide me in the Spirit to become the person you created me to be. Draw me close to you and help me to trust your thoughts and your ways. In Jesus name, Amen
