Saved?

You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.

Romans 8:9

The above verse tells us we do not belong to the Lord if we do not have the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is who connects us to God, and has the responsibility of renewing our minds to the mind of Christ. If we want assurance that we are saved, then we must be sure that we have the Holy Spirit.

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38). To repent means to turn away from our sinful ways and turn toward God’s ways. This requires that we believe the Word, and that Christ is the Son of God and died for our sins. If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9) This verse tells us that we believe in our hearts, and that we live out of our hearts. Believing in our minds is not the same as believing in our hearts, because believing in our hearts changes our lives so as to serve the Lord.

If we believe in our hearts, declare that Jesus is Lord, have repentant hearts, and are baptized, then we will have the Holy Spirit. I believed and repented in my heart and three months later the Lord put in my heart to publicly confess this and to get baptized.

Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. (Matthew 7:22-23). We are to put the Lord’s Words into practice which means we are to obey the Lord. If you love me, keep my commands. (John 14: verse 15). We are to love the Lord with all our hearts, all our souls, our strength, and all our minds; and we show this love by our faith leading to obedience.

In summary if we believe, repent, confess Jesus is Lord, and get baptized, then for sure we have the Holy Spirit. Then the Holy Spirit molds us to the mind of Christ as we obey the Lord, being a witness for Christ in this world. King David was a man after God’s own heart because he obeyed the Lord. I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do. (Acts 3:22) David wasn’t perfect and neither are we, but we have forgiveness from the Lord.

Today make sure you have the Holy Spirit; if you have the Spirit walk in obedience to the Lord’s divine will. If you are not sure, then follow scripture and receive the Holy Spirit. If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. (John 14:15-17)

Let’s Pray: Lord, fill me with the Spirit and help me to follow the Spirit’s guidance. Let your love and wisdom flow from my heart today, and keep anger and fear away. Let me walk in peace and joy with a heart of love, having the assurance that heaven is my home. In Jesus name, Amen
