Satan Masquerades as Angel of Light

Posted on

And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.

2 Corinthians 11:14

Satan masquerades as an angel of light and tempts us to do things displeasing to God that we may justify as pleasing to God. He takes what God meant for good and turns it into sin, tempting us with things we consider as minor. Do not give the devil a foothold. (Ephesians 4:27) Satan knows our weaknesses and as an angel of light he knows exactly how to tempt us.

How do we overcome being trapped in Satan’s minor temptations? Satan tries to get a foothold in our life masquerading as an angel of light, tricking us to believe we are walking in the light. I have considered my ways and have turned my steps to your statutes. (Psalm 119:59) If we take the time to think and objectively review our life against the Word, we can find out if Satan has a foothold in our life.

Satan masquerades as an angel of light tempting us to skip meeting with God’s people, not praying when the Spirit calls us to pray, not reading the Word today, or not ministering to someone. Satan can get a foothold for any of the above, and eventually these things will become a habit. We may pray less, read the Word less, miss more meetings with God’s people, and ministering to less people, and this can become our normal Christian life.

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. (Proverbs 27:17) Having a close Christians friend who we can trust to hold us accountable is a blessing, because we are biased in how we see ourselves. It is helping to ask our accountable partner how we did on a certain task and seek improvement. We are being molded by God to conform to the image of his Son, and guidance from our Christians brothers is very helpful. Often a Christian brother is hesitant to mention where we can approve, therefore we go to our Christian brother and ask how we can improve and be more pleasing to God in the task?

Today be careful to recognize Satan’s temptations masquerading as an angel of light. If you have to justify something take time and evaluate your action, because we never have justify doing what God has called to do. Note that Satan is always trying to tempt us where we are weak. Stay close to the Lord and when temptation occurs pray for the Spirit to send Satan and his demons away.

Prayer: Lord, keep me living in your truth and help me to examine every thought, word, and action to be sure it is pleasing to your will. Guide me by the Spirit to do your will today, and let the Spirit convict me if I move away from your will. In Jesus name, Amen
