Revelation, Part 2 – Seven Seals

Posted on

“Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me.”

Matthew 24:9

Fifth SealWhen he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters, were killed just as they had been. (Revelation 6:9-11) The souls of the believers who had been slain for their faith and are now in God’s presence. The white robes indicate purity because they never lost their faith even under persecution. They were told to wait a little longer referring to the end times when all believing souls will come before God.

Sixth Seal – I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. The heavens receded like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and everyone else, both slave and free, hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can withstand it?” (Revelation 6:12-17)  This seal describes the end and final judgment by God on the unbelievers. The Lord’s people have nothing to fear because we will be with the Lord. Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. (Matthew 24:30-31)  We will be with the Lord and Heaven is our eternal home, and the unbelieving souls will mourn.

Seventh Seal When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. (Revelation 8:1) Silence in the Old Testament is associated with divine judgment. (see Habakkuk, 2:20-3:15, Zech. 2:13-3:2). The first five seals cover the period of the church age, whereas the sixth and seventh seals deal with final judgment.

Today, realize the seals are trials that believers must overcome to show their faith and we overcome through the power of God. So, live today in the power of God.

Prayer: Lord, guide me through this day for your glory, living in your guidance by your love and wisdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen
