Remember the Lord’s Blessings

Posted on

Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them.

Psalm 111:2

The Bible is filled with examples of how God wants us to remember the blessings he has done for us.  The Israelites celebrated Passover to remember how God released them from the Egyptian pharaoh. We take of the Lord’s Supper to remember the sacrifice Jesus made for our sins.  These are just two examples of how God wants us to remember what he has done for his people.

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. (Proverbs 4:23) We guard our hearts by filling it with God’s love and with memories of the Lord’s blessings. If the Lord’s blessings fill our hearts, it will bring us closer to Christ. God freed the Israelites from Egypt and led them across the desert into the Promised Land. The Israelites were joyful after each miracle.  A few weeks later, they complained because they didn’t remember what the Lord had done for them and the miracles God did for them never filled their hearts.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; (Proverbs 3:5) Moses trusted the Lord because he talked to God and God talked to him.  The Israelites heard God as he descended on the mountain to meet with Moses, but the majority of the Israelites didn’t trust God because they didn’t know God.  They didn’t remember what God had done for them. It’s human nature to forget, causing us to lean on our own understanding.  A true Christian trusts God because we know God and we remember his  blessings.

How do we get the Lord’s blessings from our minds into our hearts? Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:18) The more thankful we are and the more we know God’s faithfulness from his word, the more we will remember the Lord’s blessings. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. (John 15:4) Because God’s blessings are imbedded into our faith, we live to serve the Lord by ministering to the world, depending on the Lord and remembering his blessings.

Today, remember how much God has blessed you and give him thanks for those blessings.  Depend on the Lord and seek his guidance as you minister to others.  As an ambassador of Christ, seek to serve and allow yourself to be used by God as a blessing to others.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to have a thankful heart and a heart filled with love that depends on you. Never let me forget your blessings especially what Christ did for me and the world.  In Jesus’ name, Amen
