Remember the Lord’s Blessings

Posted on

I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that you have done; I ponder the work of your hands.

Psalm 143:5

It is important we remember the blessings of God because it helps our faith and increases our thankfulness.  We remember good times from the past, so let’s remember the blessings from God in the past.  God instructed the Israelites to remember the miracles He did for them. We will use them to build a monument so that in the future, when your children ask, ‘What is this monument for? you can tell them, ‘It is to remind us that the Jordan River stopped flowing when the Ark of God went across!’ The monument will be a permanent reminder to the people of Israel of this amazing miracle.” (Joshua 4:6-7 NLT) The Lord commanded Joshua to build a monument to remember the divine crossing of the Jordan river.  The Lord wants us to remember His blessings He has given us because it greatly benefits us and brings us closer to the Lord with a thankful heart.

Thus the sons of Israel did not remember the Lord their God, who had delivered them from the hands of all their enemies on every side; (Judges 8:34 NKJV) Years later, the Israelites forgot what the Lord did for them and it opened a door for Satan. If they had remembered the miracles the Lord had done for them, they would tell Satan to flee.

Sometimes our life is difficult, but if we think and meditate on the Lord’s blessing in the past, our hearts will be filled with love, peace, and thankfulness to the Lord. Nothing gives a thankful heart more than remembering the Lord’s blessings, especially when He saved us on the cross. In the worst of times, praise and thank the Lord, remembering His love and His blessings because it helps us when we need His help the most. Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

Being thankful for God’s blessings in the past will draw us closer to the Lord.  Remembering the Lord’s blessings in our hearts changes our life to know Him and to serve Him. Think about Jesus, who endured opposition from sinners, so that you don’t become tired and give up. (Hebrews 12:3 GW) We face the future by remembering to thank the Lord for His blessings, and we go into the future with more love, faith, and endurance. We place our life in the Lord’s hands and we endure the world as His ambassadors knowing this life is temporary and Heaven is our eternal home.

Today, take time to remember the blessings from the Lord in your past, and be aware of His blessings today.  Don’t take anything for granted for all good gifts come from the Lord. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (James 1:17)

Prayer:  Lord, help me to remember everyday your divine blessings, and to praise and thank you.  Guide me in the Spirit to bring your love and blessings to others.  In Jesus’ name, Amen
