Recognizing False Teaching

Posted on

For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

2 Timothy 4:3-4

Has the time come when there is more belief in false teachings and Satan’s lies than in God’s truth? Are people today accepting their own truth rather than God’s truth? Are there more people today believing heaven is their home yet not knowing the Word, or Jesus, or knowing anything about eternal life? It appears that false teaching has become one of Satan’s most powerful weapons, playing on mankind’s ability to justify and believe what their itching ears desire.

For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. (Matthew 24:24) Jesus stated there would be more false prophets in the last days who would lead many astray. Christians should be knowledgeable of the Word, God’s Truth, because Satan is the father of lies, and he will entice his people to lead them astray. When we face Christ, our judge, we can’t say, “this person told me this,” because Christ will ask you, “what did I say?” Know the truth so you can recognize Satan’s lies.

For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds. (2 Corinthians 11:13-15) Satan plants pseudo Christians in the church. They are people who have Christ as part of their lives. They are scripturally knowledgeable, respected Christians who influence others. Their goal, however, is to make Christians complacent and comfortable, simply going to church on Sundays with the assurance of salvation.

Today, realize the truth that you are a disciple of Christ and Christ is your life. Live each moment of your day knowing the reason you exist is to reflect Christ to the world, no matter what you are doing. You may be at work, at the store, driving, or in church but your life represents Christ. When your life doesn’t represent Christ, you may be justifying false teaching.

Prayer: Lord, fill my mind and heart with your Truth as I meditate on your Word. Let the Spirit reveal any false teachings, false words, or false actions. Guide me to bring your Truth to the world today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
