Reach Out to Jesus

Posted on

The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.

Psalm 14:2

What comes to mind when you hear the term reach out to Jesus? Maybe it reminds you of worship service, Bible study, or prayer? What do think God wants from us in terms of reaching out and seeking him?

The verse says the Lord is looking for any who understand and seek him. Before we reach out to Jesus we must understand him and the relationship he wants with us. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6) This verse tells us, in all our ways submit to him, which implies we reach out to him for guidance in our choices. Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24) And this verse tells us to follow Christ. Now if we are to follow Christ as he guides us in making Godly choices, then it will necessary for us to reach out to him often. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) If we “pray without ceasing” implies constant communications with the Lord.

The Lord is pleased when we go through our day reaching out to him in praise, thankfulness, and guidance. This shows we trust the Lord and we are living as his servant. We give him the control and he gives us freedom. The more we reach out to the Lord the more freedom we experience along with peace, rest, and confidence.

The Lord’s love for us perfect and his love is more than we can understand. He is interested in every detail of our lives and his desire is to walk with us every second of everyday, guiding us and helping us, through his love and power. The following quote is from the book “Pursuit of God,’ written by T.W. Tozer, and describes what it means to reach out to the Lord. “Many have found the secret of which I speak and, without giving much thought to what is going on within them, constantly practice this habit of inwardly gazing upon God. They know that something inside their hearts sees God. Even when they are compelled to withdraw their conscious attention in order to engage in earthly affairs there is within them a secret communion always going on. Let their attention but be released for a moment from necessary business and it flies at once to God again.” This quote describes the meaning of truly reaching out to the Lord.

Today reach out to Jesus by inwardly gazing upon God. Commune with the Lord in praise, thankfulness, and seek his guidance when making decisions. Ask him to open your eyes and ears and to guide you to people who need to talk to a Christ-like person. When ministering to people ask the Lord for guidance.

Prayer: Lord, help me to reach out to you, to invite you into my life, because I need your guidance and wisdom. Thank you for walking with me and your interest in every detail of my life. Your desire to be with me in this life and in heaven forever, and the price you paid for my salvation, humbles my heart and fills it with your love. In Jesus name, Amen
