Prayer that Brings Glory to God

Posted on

And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

John 14:13

The above verse tells us that the Lord will answer our prayer if our prayer brings glory to God. If our prayer brings glory to God, does this mean God will answer our prayer according to our will and understanding?

But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. (James 1:5) If we know our prayer brings glory to God, are we to have faith that God will answer our prayer according to our will and in our time schedule? Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6) If we are to give God control and live as his servants, we pray knowing that he will answer, and we trust his answer and his timing. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:9)

When your prayer brings glory to God, trust his promise to answer that prayer, but realize he may answer in a different way and at a different time. God sees a bigger picture than we can see and answers our prayer with deeper understanding. If God answered all of our prayers just the way we wanted them to be answered and when we wanted them to be answered, we would be limiting the goodness of God’s answer.

When you pray, make sure the prayer brings glory to God, and have faith in the knowledge that he will keep his promise to answer.   Accept God’s answer and his timing, and continue to walk in obedience to his will. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. (James 5:16) If you want your prayer to be answered then continue walking as the Lord’s servant, because many times our prayers are answered through us serving the Lord. Continue to pray as the Lord’s servant and trust the Lord for the results.

Today walk as the Lord’s servant, giving him control, and when you pray know that he will answer. Continue to pray and continue as his servant. This is faith, knowing that the Lord will answer your prayer and trusting in his answer and timing. This is a prayer of faith.

Let’s Pray: Lord thank you for hearing my prayer and for your willingness to answer my prayer. Help me to turn everything over to you and to live as your servant. Guide me to make choices according to your will, choices in thoughts, words, and actions. Let my soul and my flesh yield to the Spirit. In Jesus name, Amen
