Power Over Satan

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

1 John 4:4

God has given us his divine power to overcome Satan and the evil he brings into the world. We use self-control to overcome Satan’s attacks, because he tempts our sinful nature to trigger our emotions leading us toward sin. Whatever is happening in the world we seek to remain still inside and close to the Lord for his power. We walk with Christ and we live with hearts filled with God’s love, compassion, wisdom, and power.

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us. (Ephesians 3:20) We have the divine power of God within us, but we must be still and calm inside to make his power effective. Satan seeks to use our emotions to weaken our use of God’s power, but if we remain calm inside, we have the divine power of God to overcome the world.

Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. (James 4:7) This simple verse tells us how to use God’s divine power; we resist the temptation, and we call on God for his infinite power to make Satan flee.  If we have the faith, we can call on God to overcome Satan’s attacks of our sinful nature and emotions, and we can have the pleasure of living in victory. Everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. (1 John 5:4)

God has given everything we need to overcome anything Satan can do to us through this sinful world; we just have to walk through life being still inside, and depend on the power of God. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8) We have a good idea of how Satan attacks because he attacks our weaknesses. We have to be alert and clear minded to quickly respond with the power of God when attacked. This includes attacks to our thoughts, our words, and our actions; all because Satan seeks to trigger our emotions toward sin or anger.

Today know God has given you power over Satan, so don’t let Satan trigger your emotions toward anger, impatience, or sinful thoughts.

Prayer:  Lord help me to live with your divine power over Satan’s attacks. In Jesus name, Amen
