Overcoming Fear

Posted on

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

John 14:27

Fear is an emotion God gave us, and is used to help us to avoid danger. Satan wants us to fear life, hoping to destroy our security in Christ. Fear is one of Satan’s most powerful tools, aimed to pull us away from God. When we don’t see God working in our lives, helping us to solve our problems and difficulties, our faith may weaken and we take matters into our own hands. Fear draws us toward self and away from God.

How do we calm our fears and walk in the peace that God has for us? Perfect love cast out fear. (1 John 5:4) An example of how God’s perfect love calms our can be see when a small child is in the mother’s arms. Whenever a small child is fearful, that fear goes away because the child is secure in the mother’s love. This is how God wants us to trust him, just as the mother protects her child, God will protects his child.

Learning to trust God to this degree takes time as we continually get closer to the Lord. The following promise of God will be helpful in overcoming fear when Satan attacks. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7) This is a promise from God, and if we believe this promise we can give our fear to the Lord and walk in peace, Tell God. “I refuse to walk in fear today, I give you my fear and I will walk in peace, trusting you to guide me step by step to overcome and be victorious.” Think strong, live strong!

We believe God’s promises and learn to trust him no matter what happens in life, and this is pleasing to God. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (Hebrews 11:6) The more we serve God by being a light for Christ in this world, the more blessings we receive from God. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28) If we believe this verse it can reduce our fear when trials and tribulations occur.

Today whenever Satan throws fear at you, throw it back and reach for God. Let the Lord guide you through your day step by step to overcome every obstacle, and reap the peace that transcends understanding. Today walk in victory through the power of Christ.

Prayer: Lord, take away any fear that Satan throws at me, and help me to trust your perfect love. Guide me through this day, that I might reap victory in Christ. Lord I know all things are possible for you and I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. In Jesus name, Amen
