Overcome Sin

Posted on

Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

Galatian 5:24

All sins come from Satan who activates our sinful nature, but we are dead to sin because we have crucified the flesh with Christ, and we overcome sin through the power of God.  We must depend on the infinite power of God to keep our sinful nature under divine control. We cannot have victory over sin in our own strength.

For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— because anyone who has died has been set free from sin. (Romans 6:6-7) Our sinful nature is crucified with Christ, and we are no longer slaves to sin, which is a slave to Satan. Christ gives us his power to overcome all of Satan’s attacks, and he trains us to be strong spiritual warriors.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10) When we are still inside and connected to God, we can overcome Satan from attacking our emotions to activate our sinful nature. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:21) We can overcome sin by replacing it with a good deed or in good thinking.   When tempted pick up the Bible and read a powerful scripture, because we have to change our thought.

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (Colossians 3:2) To overcome Satan’s attacks, our soul must be closer to Christ than we are to the world, and we do this by keeping our thoughts on things above, and we interface to the world through the Spirit. This may sound difficult, but with the Lord’s help all things are possible. We can always be connected to the Lord, no matter what worldly task we are doing.

The following is a quote from Tozer, “The Pursuit of God,” page 89. “Many have found the secret of which I speak and, without giving much thought to what is going on within them, constantly practice this habit of inwardly gazing upon God. They know that something inside their hearts sees God. Even when they are compelled to withdraw their conscious attention in order to engage in earthly affairs, there is within them a secret communion going on. Let their attention but be released for a moment from necessary business and it flies at once to God again. This has been the testimony of many Christians, … from how many I cannot possibly know.”  This is a person that seeks to be close to God through their thoughts and actions, and their highest priority is God. Their minds are divinely controlled and they overcome sin through the power of God.

Today control your thoughts by talking to God throughout the day, think about doing good, capture every thought to the obedience of Christ, read scriptures that are powerful, be still inside to help control the emotions, and know your sinful nature was crucified with Jesus.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to be dead to sin, to control my thoughts and my emotions. In Jesus name, Amen
