Overcome Doubt with Faith

Posted on

But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

James 1:6

Do you experience doubt when you pray or when you are called to serve the Lord? The apostles faced persecution as they preached Christ to the world, but their faith overcame their doubt and they continued to spread the good news of Christ to their last breath. Doubt comes from fear, and fear can lead us to lean on our own understanding. Satan uses doubt to weaken our connection to God.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6). This verse is very powerful, but hard to put into practice. Though we may trust the Lord, our own understanding can bring fear and doubt. This is Satan’s way of pushing us to share the throne with God. Christians must live as the Lord’s servants. Whatever he calls us to do requires preparation and moving forward, even with limited understanding. The Lord’s commands must override our understanding.

As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts (Isaiah 55:9). The Lord’s ways may be beyond your understanding, but have faith in the Lord’s perfect will and guidance, and step out in faith without fear and doubt. We can say “I have prepared, prayed, and I know the Lord is with me and will help me to endure through whatever happens,” this is faith.

Trusting the Lord requires that we know him and know that all things are possible for God. We trust God because he is God and we are his servants. You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you (Luke 26:3). We can fully trust the Lord and overcome any doubt from Satan, for this pleases the Lord.

Today trust the Lord in everything and walk in humble confidence without doubt. Even with perfect faith things do not always work out the way we think they should, but trust the Lord because his ways are higher than our ways as the heavens are higher than the earth.

Let’s Pray: Lord, help me trust you and walk in accordance to your will without doubt. Fill my mind and heart with confidence in you. Help me to walk humbly and secure with a heart of peace and joy. In Jesus name, Amen
