Overcome Discouragement

Posted on

Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.

Psalm 55:22

Satan will try to place our minds into a state of discouragement to limit our desire to serve the Lord. It is important that we trust the Lord to sustain us and not get discouraged when disappointment occurs.  We are warriors living with victory in Christ, and victory in Christ is whenever we are motivated to give our best in serving the Lord, no matter what the immediate outcome.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6) This verse is powerful and if we lean on our own understanding, we can become discouraged; but, if we continually trust the Lord, we will live in victory. Our task is bringing the Lord’s Truth to the world, telling them about Christ, forgiveness, and salvation. The immediate results of ministry can often be misleading and discouraging, but our goal is to plant seeds and God determines how the seeds grow.

These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world. (John 16:33 NASB) Christ has overcome the world and since Christ is in us through the Holy Spirit, we have overcome the world. If we truly believe this, we will gain faith and we will seek the Lord’s strength every time Satan hits us with discouragement. We will come back stronger, with the Lord’s power, strength, and wisdom. We show the Lord our spiritual fight against Satan and that we trust his divine guidance.

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:18) If we love the Lord, know he is sovereign over all creation, know Heaven is our home, and trust him, then, we live with a thankful heart.  Any temptation of discouragement from Satan will only make us stronger and trust the Lord more.

Today, don’t let anything discourage you but live with hope in the Lord and live with an attitude of victory in Christ.  Our attitude is critical in serving the Lord, and let your attitude come from the Spirit and not from the world.

Prayer: Lord, let any discouragement drive me closer to you, to trust you more and to increase my desire to serve you. In Jesus’ name, Amen
