Our Sins are Forgiven
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:5
Christ died on the cross to take away our sins and present us to the Father as sinless. Christians are filled with the Holy Spirit who helps us to overcome sin. When we sin, we pray for forgiveness and the divine power to overcome it.
Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. (2 Corinthians 7:10) All sin is against the Lord and leaves us with Godly sorrow. How can we sin against the Lord who loves us, blesses us, and has an eternal home for us, and he took our punishment on the cross to save us. We seek forgiveness with a repentant heart because we have Godly sorrow and not just worldly sorrow. Worldly sorrow is based on the temporary consequences sin has caused us, while Godly sorrow is based how our sin has hurt the Lord.
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. (Galatians 5:16) Sin normally comes from the desires of the flesh and the spiritual war is between the Spirit and the desires of the flesh. We can be sure we have forgiveness if we are overcoming a sinful habit through the power of Christ. Christians face many temptations but we learn to become spiritual warriors and we fight sinful desires by capturing every thought. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:5) How can we have Godly sorrow for our sins if we are not fighting to overcome our sins?
Today know you are a spiritual warrior and have power over Satan and his demons. You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. (1 John 4:4) Seek forgiveness when sin occurs with Godly sorrow, and fight the temptation through the power of God. Then without doubt your sins are forgiven and remembered no more. For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more. (Hebrews 8:12)
Prayer: Lord, help me to overcome every temptation today and seek forgiveness when I fail to overcome. Turn me into a powerful spiritual warrior that hates sin. Guide me in the Spirit to do your will so I can overcome evil by doing good. In Jesus name, Amen
