Obey All of God’s Commands

Posted on

Love the LORD your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always.

Deuteronomy 11:1

We obey the Lord’s commands because He is our judge for eternal life, and we are not. Some people pick and choose which commands to obey and which commands not to obey. Reasons people pick and choose is based on twisting the Word to suit their own desires, to please friends or family, or to support a respected yet misguided Christian.

Love the Lord your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always. (Deuteronomy 11:1) We are to seek to obey all of God’s commands. Some of His commands we cannot obey in our own strength, but if we pray for the Lord’s help, He will guide us in the Spirit to change our heart’s desire to obey His commands.  We live out of our hearts and we always pray for the Lord to change the desires of our hearts to obey His will.

For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. (Romans 2:13) Knowing the Lord’s commands in our minds is good, but the commands need to move to our hearts for us to obey.  It is the Lord who changes the desires of our hearts to conform to the will of God.  When our hearts change, God’s commands become natural to us.

Has the Lord as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifice as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams. (1 Samuel 15:22 NASB95) According to this scripture, the Lord is pleased when we seek to fully obey His divine will because it reveals our love and faith for the Him. Reading the Word, praying, and worship are the foundation for obeying His commands.  If we are not motivated to do what the Word tells us, then what good is the Word to us?

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. (James 1:22) If we seek to obey all of the Lord’s commands with the Lord’s guidance and help, we will be blessed as our hearts change with each command.  The blessings from God far exceed blessings from the world because His blessings fill our souls and they never go away but get stronger as get closer to the Lord through obedience.

Today, seek to fully obey the Lord and ask for His guidance and help. Christ lives in us through the Spirit for the purpose of guiding us through life with His love, power, and motivation. The blessings from God stay in our soul all through our life and get stronger as we continue serving Him.

Prayer: Lord, guide me in the Spirit to fully obey your commands.  Keep changing my heart to be more like Jesus’ heart.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
