No Need to Buy Gas

Posted on

But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.

John 14:14

Yesterday I was driving down the highway to a Bible class and realized I needed to buy gas. It seemed I filled the tank just a few days ago and couldn’t believe the tank was nearly empty. It cost me about $30 to fill the tank, and I was imagining how great it would be to fill the tank and run forever without needing to buy gas again. God does this for us with living water from the spirit, and we run on the fruit of the Spirit for all eternity. If we could do this with our cars we could drive around forever enjoying life and never again stop to buy gas.

Cars will always need refueling, but our souls are fueled by the Spirit, and the Spirit has an infinite supply of fruit from God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). This enables us to go through life with peace, joy, and satisfaction, with no need to search the world for refueling. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full (John 10:10). Life to the full means our souls are filled with Christ and we no longer search the world for temporary things that can never keep our eternal souls full.

Once we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, Christ asks the Father to send the Holy Spirit to live in the believer. I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you (John 14:16-17). We now have the source of eternal fulfillment that comes from God, and never have to search the world for a place to refill.

The assurance that we have eternal life is necessary for true lasting peace and joy. The Holy Spirit is our seal for eternal life. In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation–having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory (Ephesians 1:13-14). We’re in God’s family and sealed by the Spirit for eternal life. God protects those in his family from Satan and his demons, and he promises us an escape from all temptations. The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure (1 Corinthians 10:13).

Today walk in victory, filled with the Holy Spirit, and destroy any desire from Satan to refill. Walk today in confidence and security in Christ and reflect his love and compassion to everyone. Heaven is your home, and the Lord is always with you, sand you are filled with the Holy Spirit. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand (Isaiah 41:10).

Let’s Pray: Lord thank you for filling me with your eternal love, peace, and joy and for helping me to overcome the world. Lord, you provide living water and my heart is filled with thanks. Be with me today through the Spirit, and help me to reflect a fulfilled heart of love and thanks. In Jesus name, Amen
