Move Ahead Toward Christ

Posted on

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.

Philippians 3:13

The apostle Paul was always looking ahead and forgetting the past, and he was getting closer to Christ. The Christian’s life is not about having a close relationship with Christ, and we can get closer to Christ to our last breath. The closer we are to Christ the more spiritual blessing that fill our soul, and its only spiritual blessings that satisfy the soul while worldly possessions do nothing more than temporarily satisfy the flesh. The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing (John 6:63).

Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62).  A Christian is continually growing to become more like Christ. How can we spiritually grow if we are looking back into our past?

There is more to moving forward than simply not looking back. Moving forward is spiritual growth which only occurs by knowing the Word and living to serve Christ. For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God (Romans 8:14). The Holy Spirit guides us through life by the words of Christ that he puts into our minds.  We always pray that the Lord will help us to hear his voice through the Spirit, and recognize divine thoughts he puts in our minds.

We move closer to Christ through prayer, meditating on the Word, fellowship with our Christian brothers and sisters all, and being a light for Christ. When we are close to the Lord we have the desire to be with Lord. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8).  Paul is expressing a heart that prefers to be with the Lord rather than to remain living in the flesh.

Today focus on moving ahead toward eternal life., and after this day realize you are one day closer to Heaven. And each day seek to be closer to the Lord and becoming more Christ-like. Being closer to the Lord is the greatest thing we can ever experience, and being in the Lord’s presence in heaven is so great that words cannot express it.

Let’s Pray: Lord thank you for the Spirit who guides me and motivates me to the endurance to keep moving ahead.  In Jesus name, Amen.
