Mind on Things of God

Posted on

But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”

Mark 8:33

As Christians our minds should be on the things of God, seeking to live each day doing what He calls us to do. If our minds are on things of God, it will help us follow the Spirit, and life is always better and more rewarding when we follow the Lord’s will.

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (Colossians 3:2) Having our minds on things above is having our minds on the things of God. Whatever we do in this life we always have our minds on doing the Lord’s will. If our minds are totally focused on things of the world, we can may miss what the Lord wants is to do in certain situations. We need to be primed for the Lord’s guidance and we do this by our minds, both conscious and unconscious, directed toward things above.

The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. (Romans 8:6) We interface to the world through the Spirit, meaning everything we hear and say is through the Spirit. This is how we make use of the Spirit’s guidance, and it can become a habit. And this habit is how we keep our minds on the things of God.

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. (Psalm 34:8) When we seek the Lord’s guidance, we will soon know his ways are better than our ways, and then we will always seek his divine guidance. The we take refuge in him in all things, because we gladly replace our will with his will.

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20) It is an unbelievable blessing when we are guided by Christ through the Spirit; we walk with confidence through the divine will of Christ, and we are now free in Christ. We develop a thankful heart that the Lord is willing to guide us through life, with his love, wisdom, and strength.

Today think about the things of God and ask the Spirit to guide you through your day. Seek to walk in his love, wisdom, and strength.

Prayer:  Father, control my mind to think on things above; to think about your will as I go through the day. In Jesus name, Amen
