Look Up Not Down
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.Romans 8:28
There are times in our lives when we feel defeated, but are we really down or should we look up? When walking with the Lord and serving him with a heart of love, are we ever truly defeated? Romans 8:28 tells us “God works all things for the good,” so how can we be defeated? Even when we fall into sin we look up with Godly sorrow, he forgives us, and remembers our sins no more. We may be defeated from the world’s point of view, but we are not defeated in God’s point of view.
We look at ourselves and the world through the eyes and heart of our Lord. We are educated and gain knowledge in order to work and provide for our families because this pleases God. For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat” (2 Thessalonians 3:10). We do everything for God’s glory and with a thankful heart, walking as his servant, reflecting Christ in everything we do.
God never fails and if we walk with the Lord is he going to let us fail? We are not perfect, but we have forgiveness and we overcome sinful habits and do our best in everything we do. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters (Colossians 3:23). We should always be looking up to the Lord for guidance, and never down in defeat. Even in our sin we look for victory to overcome, because if we look down in defeat we have lost the ability of God’s power to fight Satan’s temptations.
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. (Romans 8:1) This verse enables us to always look up no matter what happens in life, because God will use everything for our good. Looking up to the love and power of God with an attitude of victory is how the Lord wants us to live. We never look down in defeat because that is a tactic of Satan designed to lead us into self-condemnation.
Today, look up to the Lord and walk with a heart of victory. No matter how the world treats Christians, remember the Lord will lead us through this sinful world to victory. Pray for the lost world that is looking down to Satan and walking in his ways. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand (Isaiah 41:10) Living by this verse, we will always be looking up with victory in Christ.
Let’s Pray: Lord, keep me looking up, living in your victory and never looking down in fear. Thank you for being sovereign over all creation and for protecting my soul as I live in your divine Kingdom. Fill my heart with your love so I can combat the evil Satan brings to the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
