Living Water

Posted on

If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.

John 4:10

Jesus made this statement to the women at the well.   He asked her for a drink of water and he said if you knew who it is that asks you for a drink, he would “have given you living water.”  Where does living water come from and what is living water?  Does it come from God or does come from the world?  But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. (John4:14) How does living water keep being thirsty?

Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water. (John 4:15).  This was the woman’s response asking for living water she wouldn’t have to keep drawing water, clearly a worldly understanding of living water.  There is no living water that will keep from becoming thirsty so what does Jesus mean by never thirst?

It’s apparent that Jesus supplies the living water, and he is the living water. Anyone who believes in me may come and drink!  For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart (John 7:38).  Living water flows from our heart which implies our heart will never thirst again.  We live out of our heart therefore our life will never thirst again, and the only way this can happen is when our heart is continually fulfilled, satisfied and secure.  We certainly cannot find continual fulfillment, satisfaction, and security in this world because everything in the world is temporary.  Only the eternal God can provide for our eternal soul.

The living water is the Holy Spirit that that sends to those accept Jesus as their Savior.  And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth.  The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. (John14:16 -17).  It is the task of the Holy Spirit to mold us to the mind of Christ and to guide our thoughts, words, and action toward the will of God.  The more we are in the Word, prayer, fellowshipping with other Christians, following the Spirit’s guidance ministering to lost souls, the more we will recognize the Spirit living is us.

The Spirit is God, and brings to us the character of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5:22 – 23).  The fruit springs up in us to eternal life, and we have a divine reason for life, bring lost souls to Christ and reflecting God’s love to everyone.  The water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life. (John 4:14) We now live life to the full, with satisfaction, and secure in Christ knowing heaven is our home.  We are filled with living water and we will never thirst again.

Today be filled with living water and invite anyone who will listen to receive this living water. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water. (John7:38)  Let people see the living water in you flowing to others through the light. Be aware of the power of the Holy Spirit that lives in you, and that he will be there with you and with anyone you converse with to touch there heart.

Prayer:  Lord fill me living water and guide me to let it overflow to others.  Open my mind and heart to see those that are thirsty.  Guide me to hear your voice through the Holy Spirit because I can do nothing unless I am in Christ and he is me.  In Jesus Name, Amen
