Living in the Power of God

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.

Ephesians 3:20

What does it mean to live in the power of God? Could it be we need his power to overcome an addiction, to handle a situation in life, to overcome bad habits and past hurts, to overcome fear or anger, or anything else that we wish God would take away? Anything we need to overcome that makes us more Christ-like in serving the Lord, is exactly what the Lord wants for us. If we truly want to change, then the Lord will give us his power to overcome. Everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. (1 John 5:4)

If we have the faith to trust him and his ways, and live as his servant, we have stepped off the throne and we can live with his power at work within us. We firmly believe God’s promises, and we pray in his promises knowing they will come true in our lives. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7) Here we are told that if we give our anxious moments to God he will give us his peace. If we pray with confidence asking for peace and for his guidance throughout the day, then we are walking in his power. We boldly seek God’s power in our lives through his promises and we demand ourselves to believe and immediately start walking in his promises. God’s power is revealed in us when we pray and believe his promises.

If we don’t pray to overcome, if we don’t seek his power, if we don’t fully trust the Lord to give us his power, and if we are not fully trying to obey the Lord and walk as his servant, then we should not expect the fullness of his power to work through us. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind (James 1:6). If we doubt God in any area of our lives we will diminish his power in us, and our faith will be weak. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him (Hebrews 11:6). If we have faith that pleases God, and if we pray in God’s promises, then we will experience his power in our lives.

If our hearts haven’t fully surrendered to live as the Lord’s servants, then our faith is weak and we cannot live in God’s power. If we continue our Christian lives, living with an element of doubt, we will struggle to overcome until our last breath. Successful living in God’s power is correlated to our trust in the Lord.

Today, fully trust the Lord’s promises and refuse to let Satan place any doubt in your mind. Live with one hundred percent confidence in the Lord; in his promises, his love, and his compassion. Tell yourself you will fully trust the Lord and immediately start living in his promises knowing you will be successful and overcome.

Let’s Pray: Lord, I surrender everything to you and will trust you in all things. I will not accept any doubts or emotional attacks from Satan, but will live confidently with peace and joy through your love and power. I will seek you with all my heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen
