Live Eternally Minded

Posted on

Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.

James 4:14

Our physical life is like a vapor while our heavenly life is forever. Do we live for this life only, or do we live this life for eternity? If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. (1 Corinthians 15:19) We live this life as ambassadors for Christ and our home is Heaven.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. (Ecclesiastes 3:11) We are created with eternity in our hearts because we look forward to the beauty of being in Heaven with the Father and the Son. Satan uses the world to minimize our thoughts on eternal life, and to put our hope in Christ for this life.

If we are not eternally minded, then, by default, we are worldly minded. We are eternally minded because we have a strong desire to be with the Father and the Son. Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. (John 17:3) Our motivation is to be in Heaven with the Father and the Son, and this desire makes us eternally minded motivating us to serve the Lord in this life.

We look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:18 NASB) This verse is telling us to be eternally minded, to look at things which are not seen – eternity.  If we are worldly minded, then we are fleshly driven, but if we are eternally minded, we are spiritually driven. We are spiritual people, and life is in our eternal soul living in a temporary fleshly body, and our flesh can never fulfill our soul.

We are in a spiritual war, and Satan will use the world to drive us into being worldly minded.  His goal is to destroy any thoughts of eternity.  Satan is satisfied if we put our hope in Christ for this life only. Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2) We fix our eyes on Christ by serving Christ. He fills our hearts with the His love which draws us closer to Him. The closer we want to be Christ, the more eternally minded we become.

Today, realize this life is like a vapor, and eternal life in Heaven is your home.  We live temporarily in this world as an ambassador for Christ, and we do this by reflecting Christ to everyone. The Word is our guide to eternal life.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to be eternally minded by making me more Christ-like. Guide me through the Spirit to minister to others, especially to lost souls.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
