Light Takes Away Darkness

Posted on

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Matthew 5:14-16

The Light of Christ always takes away darkness, but if there is no Light the darkness remains. We are the Light of the world and if our Light is not on a hill for all to see, then souls remain in darkness. The Light takes away darkness which is victory in Christ.

Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” (John 8:18) Jesus in the Light of the world and we follow Jesus, and this means we are the Light of the world.  The Light of life implies we are spiritually alive for all eternity, and the more our Light shines in the world the more spiritually alive we become, because the Light leads us closer to Christ.

Do this, knowing the time that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed. The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. (Romans 13:11-13) Christ will soon return and do away with all darkness, but until he returns we put on the armor of Light to touch the hearts of lost souls.

And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. (2 Corinthians 3-5) Glory in Christ is when we bring the Light to someone, whether or not they receive the good news of Christ in their hearts.  We pray that the Lord will soften blind hearts to the Light of Christ; then we bring the Light with love and compassion.

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. (Psalm 119:10) The Word is the lamp that guides our Light, and the more we know the Word and depend on Christ, the more our Light shines. The more of God’s love we have in our hearts the brighter the Light of Christ shines in us. If you love me, keep my commands. (John 14:15) When our hearts are filled with God’s love we will be driven to obey his commands, and the Light of Christ shines bright in this world.

Today seek to let the Light of Christ shine in you, in all situations.  Reflect Jesus to everyone with love, showing compassion, patience, and kindness. The more Light of Christ we reflect to the world, the more spiritual life we have and the brighter the Light.

Prayer:  Lord, guide me in the Spirit to let the Light of Christ shine and with no occurrence of darkness. Cast out any darkness because it dims the Light of Christ. Fill me with Light of the Spirit today and guide me to live this day for Christ.  In Jesus name, Amen
