Light is Victory over Darkness

Posted on

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

John 1:5

Whenever the light of Christ shines we have victory over darkness in the sight of the Lord. We can make statements of God’s truth that unbelievers will hopefully take to heart and think about later. Light overcomes darkness not always mean souls living in darkness are converted to Christ, but means that we have planted a word from the Lord into their hearts, and we have reflected Christ by compassion and gentleness with our words.

You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. (Matthew 5:14) We are a light that is never to be hidden, and we bring the light of Christ to lift people up with the good news of the truth. Light brings people out of the darkness and into the light so they can see and understand God’s truth. Therefore see yourself as light bringing good news to people, and use words and scriptures that reveal the good news to people.

Pride is wrapped in darkness because it blocks the person from believing the truth. Jesus told the Pharisees that their hearts were far from God because they were prideful. These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. (Matthew 15:8) The darkness of pride in a person is difficult to overcome. We attack pride with a loving and caring heart; gently bringing them the truth. We leave a little light in their hearts and hopefully later we can bring more light and through the power of God they will eventually overcome the darkness in their hearts.

The power of the light comes from the Word and our testimony. People will argue the Word but they cannot deny our testimony. Sometimes the weapon of light is only our compassionate non-threatening attitude of our testimony. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16) We show the light of Christ in our daily walk with a heart filled with love, peace, and joy.

Today remember to let your light shine with a loving heart filled with peace and joy. People notice a person that is filled with joy that encourages and is delighted to be with you. Notice in the Word how many times Jesus had compassion and he acted on that compassion by helping the person. This is how the light of Christ is shown.

Prayer: Lord, guide me to overcome darkness by the light of Christ, illuminated by your truth showing a loving compassionate heart. Let your love and compassionate be revealed through me. In Jesus name, Amen
