Life with Purpose

Posted on

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jeremiah 29:11

If we were to ask people on the street the reason for their existence, what do you think the answers would be? I have asked people this question and have gotten the following answers: To work, to support my family, to raise my kids, to make money and enjoy life, no real reason just trying and get through, and “never really thought about it.” Do any of these answers really tell the reason we exist or what our purpose is for living? God tells us the reason for our existence and the purpose of our lives.

We are created by God with a divine purpose for our lives, and it continues until we step into eternity. When life has divine meaning and purpose, we see ourselves more the way God sees us. We come to realize that our lives are important and we live to fill that importance through guidance by the Holy Spirit. When we fulfill our divine purpose we feel better about ourselves, knowing we are on a mission for God, the creator of heaven and earth. This pleases God more than we can image, and he blesses us in this life; furthermore, he will not let anything keep us out of heaven because we are his family. But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one. (2 Thessalonians 3:3)

How do we know if we are living God’s plan, the unique plan he created for us? We will know when life becomes more fulfilled than we have ever before experienced.   When this happens, we are motivated with the heart of God and life is challenging, rewarding, and never boring. How do we reach this state? In our own guidance we cannot reach this state, but the Lord guides us through the Holy Spirit, molding us into the person he created us to be. We abide in God’s plan from day one in our walk and his plan continually opens up to new ventures as he matures us in Christ.

In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps. (Proverbs 16:9) This means we pray and the Lord opens a door for us. We now plan the course for the activity that results from going through the open door. We pray for guidance from the Holy Spirit and Christ directs our steps through the plan. But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. (John 16:13)

Today seek to walk in accordance with the Spirit’s guidance. Pray when making choices and seek to make Godly choices. Do the best you can and you will be walking in the divine plan the Lord has for you. Continue doing this and note how life gets more fulfilling. Be sure to pray, read the Word, and fellowship with your Christian family, because it will bring you closer to the Lord and help you to follow the Spirit. Remember, God can fulfill his perfect plans through imperfect people.

Let’s Pray: Lord, help me to live the divine plan that you created for me. I truly want to know the person that you created me to be. Let Christ live in me and guide me so that I can follow your plan. I know that I will walk and live in your plan until you decide it’s time to come home, and eternal life is my security in this world. Thank you for being mindful of me and for your desire to bring me home to live in your loving family. In Jesus name, Amen
