Life is in the Soul

Posted on

Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

Genesis 2:7

Our flesh was created by God from the dust of the ground, and life wasn’t present until God gave us the breath of life.  Life is in our spiritual soul which lives forever because our life came from our eternal God. But he took her by the hand and said, “My child, get up!” Her spirit returned, and at once she stood up. (Luke 8:54-55) Jesus brought a twelve-year-old girl back to life, and she came back to life when her spirit returned.

Our life is in our eternal spiritual soul which lives in our temporary physical flesh. Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.(Matthew 10:28) The Lord is more concerned about our eternal life than He is about our temporary physical shell. He knows we get a new perfect body for our spiritual soul.

So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. (1 Corinthians 15:42-44) When Christ returns, we get an imperishable, glorious, powerful, spiritual body. Our new body is called a spiritual body because in Heaven we are with the presence of the Father and Son, and we crave things of God, just as our physical body craves things of the world where Satan reigns.

Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. (Romans 8:5-6) The spiritual war that we all fight consists of feeding our eternal soul with things of the world or with things of God through the Spirit.  Our soul is directed to the world or to God by our thoughts.  Our thoughts can remain on God if we follow the Spirit and do everything as doing it for the Lord.

We give priority to our eternal soul however our body is the temple for the Holy Spirit that lives within us.  We do our best in taking care of our physical body, while our soul is fed through the Holy Spirit. I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:14) We live for our eternal soul and when our thoughts are on Christ, it has a positive effect on our physical health.

Today, live for your eternal life and guide your soul from the Spirit. Fight Satan’s temptations through the flesh by changing your thoughts to obedience in Christ.

Prayer: Lord guide me through the Holy Spirit and help me destroy Satan’s temptations.  Help me to have my thoughts on serving you today.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
