Life is Choices

Posted on

For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding.

Proverbs 2:6

I have read that we make approximately 3500 choices every day, and we have the power of God enabling us to choose independent of our learned behavior. Every thought, every word, and every action is the result of a choice. We all make choices that are not pleasing to the Lord, but imagine what life would be like if we could always make Godly choices. We’re not perfect and God knows this and Christ has covered our sins by taking them to the cross, and we have forgiveness.

What keeps us from making Godly wise choices? We must have the desire and motivation to make Godly choices, understand his ways, and not let our emotions drive our choices. The more we read the Word, pray, and fellowship with other Christians, the more insight we have to make Godly choices. The more we realize that we are to reflect Christ in all circumstances, the more thought we will give to our words and actions. What keeps us from making Godly choices is often our emotions. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:15) The key to gaining control of the emotions is to be quick to listen and slow to speak. This may be difficult but is possible, and the reward of being in control and making Godly wise choices is more than worth the effort.

Making Godly choices means walking in Godly wisdom. Godly wisdom is not the same as worldly wisdom because Godly wisdom comes from God’s infinite wisdom, love, and power. Godly wisdom instills in us the need for more knowledge of his ways, and how to carry out his will. Learning to walk in Godly wise choices brings self-control, confidence, and Godly influence to us. Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (Ephesians 4:29) We can only fulfill this verse with a heart of love and having the ability to make Godly choices.

Today take control of your thoughts, words, and actions. Don’t let your emotions drive your words and actions but instead seek Godly wisdom. Slow down inside and keep your thoughts Christ centered, walking in control with confidence knowing the Lord will help you through any situation you may encounter.

Prayer: Lord, help me to be in control through the Spirit today, making wise choices. Help me to keep my emotions under control, slow to speak, and to seek your wisdom. Slow me down inside that I may walk in peace, comfort, and confidence in Christ. Thank you Lord for being with me today and guiding me in making wise choices. In Jesus name, Amen
