Life Through the Flesh, or Life Through the Spirit?

Posted on

The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you--they are full of the Spirit and life.

John 6:63

We are created in the image of God and he loves us perfectly, therefore it stands to reason he desires to bless us with life to the full. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:10) Many people in this world are living by fulfilling their fleshy desires thinking they are content and fulfilled. The truth is they have never experienced the life that the Lord offers through the Spirit. I lived fifty nine years seeking satisfaction through the flesh and from the world’s view; and I thought life was fulfilling as possible. It wasn’t until I surrendered to the Lord fifteen years ago and today living life through the Spirit which is better than I could ever dreamed, and it’s not based on the worldly things or the world around me.

Satan’s goal is to have us seek fulfillment by trying to satisfy the flesh with worldly things such as money, power, travel, entertainment, or material things. The things of the world are temporary and can never satisfy our soul like the eternal God can satisfy our soul. These are the words that Jesus spoke to the prideful Pharisees: “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”(John 8:44) Satan doesn’t care what kind life you live as long as you are separated from God. Many people are living a comfortable life believing Satan’s lies for eternal life, and they are content but they don’t know they are separated from God.

Life through the Spirit will satisfy our spiritual soul because the love, peace, and joy from the Spirit can continuously feed our soul. As we continually get closer to the Lord the more love, peace, and joy we experience throughout our life until our last breath when love, peace, and joy reach infinite. The more of God’s love that is in our heart the less fear we have, because God’s love drives out Satan’s fear. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. (John 4:18). The more love in our heart the less fear we have, and how can we have peace and joy if our hearts are filled with fear?

Life through the Spirit is God’s plan for life to the full, and it reaps eternal life. Now we can have peace and joy with confidence in our eternal life because we are living according his Word which is pleasing to God. “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 7:21)

Today seek to do the will of the Father and tell others that living the Fathers will brings life to the full and freedom in Christ. Explain what it means to be free in Christ to others and living life to the full without entertaining Satan’s fear.

Prayer: Lord, help me to live through the Spirit, living each day seeking your directions through the Spirit. Guide me to be a light for Christ with a loving compassionate heart. In Jesus name, Amen
