Led by the Spirit

Posted on

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

Romans 8:14

Being led by the Spirit is something I have found essential, and it is made possible through practice and prayer by seeking the Lord’s divine power. Even when the Lord enables us to walk in the Spirit, we sometimes forget and walk through life without seeking spiritual guidance. I try to seek spiritual guidance in every choice, especially when I’m teaching, preaching, or ministering to someone.

While they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” (Acts 13:2) The church in Antioch was fasting and praying and Spirit said “Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul.” I assume the Spirit didn’t verbalize these words to them, so how did the Spirit tell them? The Spirit placed the thought in their minds, and they voted who should be set aside.

This example teaches us to pray for the Spirit to answer and follow our conscience. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. (John 16:13) We are led by the Spirit to reflect the truth to the world. The Spirit will reveal the thoughts of Christ, guiding us as we minister with the correct scriptures and words.

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. (John 15:5) It is essential that we are led by the Spirit because Christ knows the scriptures and words the person we are ministering to needs to hear. The Lord has divine knowledge and we don’t. However, as we listen to the person and open our thoughts to the Lord, we can determine what to say and which scriptures to use.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) If we go through our days communing with the Lord, we will be primed to seek his guidance. Try to commune with Lord throughout the day and with practice and prayer note a steady progress. Pray for patience and to be courteous when driving, for words of kindness and gentleness with others, and for his divine guidance when ministering.

Today, commune with the Lord and seek his guidance to be Christ-like. Remember the Lord and his perfect love and infinite wisdom is with you, guiding you throughout your day. Today, reveal Godly wisdom with a humble, secure heart.

Prayer: Lord, help me to follow the Spirit as he leads me through the day with your love and wisdom. Guide me be Christ-like today, reflecting your love and compassion. In Jesus’ name, Amen
