Know the Word

Posted on

He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God.

Revelations 19:13

It is critically import that we know the Word, because it is the language of God and we are judged by our obedience to the Word. We live by the Word through the Spirit, and we fight Satan from pulling us away from the Word by tempting our fleshly desires.

Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. (Joshua 1:8) The more we know the Word the better we follow the Spirit, and the better we understand the Lord. Every command in the Word is for our benefit and should be obeyed through the power of our Lord.

For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. (1 Corinthians 2:11) It’s the Holy Spirit that enables us to understand the Word and connects us to the Lord. The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. (1 Corinthians 2:14)

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12) When we read the Word and obey the Word, we are changed by the power of God. Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. (James 1:22) We obey the Word through the power of God and he will change us, and his commands become the desire if our hearts.

When we obey the Word ministering to the world, God fills our hearts with his love, and love enables us to know the Lord and motivates us to serve the Lord, being a Light in the world. Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. (1 John 4:7) The Lord desires that we be motivated by his love in our hearts, because love makes the commands in Bible natural and desirable; it’s no longer works. With hearts of love, we put the Lord and other people first.

Today study the Word because it is the language of God. The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. (Deuteronomy 31:8-9) Remember the Lord is always with you.

Prayer:  Help me to understand your Word and to obey your Word. Guide me in the Spirit to bring your Word to the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen
