Know the Lord

Posted on

We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error. Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.

1 John 4:6-7

We read the Word and understand the Lord’s love and compassion, and his love was so powerful that he took our sins to the cross. Jesus is the model for how we are to live our lives, and scripture says we are predestined to conform to the image of his Son. (Romans 8:29) The relationship between Jesus and the Father models our relationship between us and Christ. We model our life after the life of Jesus when we come to know him.

Reading and meditating on the Word enables us to know about Jesus but will we know Jesus? If truly want to know someone, we must spend time with them to understand their personality. It is same with knowing Jesus; our life must identify with Jesus’ life, both in our thoughts and our emotions. We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. (1 John 2:3) We obey him by letting the Spirit guide us to minister to this misguided world, then our hearts will identify with Jesus’ heart and we will begin to truly know Jesus.

The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. (1 Corinthians 2:10) When we live to bring the good news of Christ to the world, the Spirit opens the Word to deep understanding, enabling us to teach others. The more we minister to the world, the more meaningful the Word becomes, the more we find ourselves in prayer, and we find ourselves eager to be with our Christian brothers and sisters. This is the way Christ intended it to be; the Church, the Word, and prayer become our life as we live to bring Christ to the world.

The more love that is our hearts, the more Christ-like we become and the better we know the Lord. It is the Lord’s love in our hearts that changes us to be Christ-like, and the more love we reflect to others the more love we receive in our hearts, making us more Christ-like. Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. (1 John 4:7) The more love we have in our hearts the more we know the Lord, because God is love.

Today walk reflecting God’s love, his compassion, his kindness, and his patience. When we are motivated to bring Christ to people, we tend to move through life a slower pace, praying that the Lord will put someone in our path seeking the truth. Know that ministering and helping people is the most fulfilling thing we can do.

Prayer: Lord, guide me through this day reflecting your love, as I seek to know you better. The more I follow the Spirit, the better I know you and the more Christ-like I become. Help me to follow the Spirit’s guidance today. In Jesus’ name, Amen
