Do You Know Your Spiritual Gifts?

Posted on

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.

1 Corinthians 12:4-6

Can we identify all of our Spiritual gifts? Or, is God the only one who knows all of them? Maybe we don’t know all our Spiritual gifts because Satan doesn’t want us to know them. Satan will stop us from finding them by using fear and doubt. He may lead us to believe it’s too much work, it’s out of our comfort zone, or it changes our schedule.

We recognize certain innate talents as Spiritual gifts, but do we have Spiritual gifts that require development of a talent where learning is involved? The Lord created us and he is the only one who knows the Spiritual gifts we have through His power and wisdom. Do we believe all things are possible with God, and yet don’t believe I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me? (Philippians 4:13) Believing this scripture takes faith by trusting God through the Holy Spirit and preparing ourselves through prayer and study.

If you love me, keep my commands. (John 14:15) It’s our love shown through faith that motivates us to step out and follow the Spirit on a journey to where we have never before been. Trusting the Lord and truly following the Spirit leads us to an exciting, fulfilling life. Without this type of driving faith, our spiritual walk becomes routine and less fulfilling than the Lord desires. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)

The rewards from God are numerous when we step out into the unknown. By stepping out we learn how to trust God and we learn how to give Him control. We learn how to use the Spirit’s power and wisdom to achieve things we thought were never possible. Things that, in fact, are not possible by our own strength. We find a fulfilling life and our hearts are on fire to serve the Lord.

Today, step out wherever the Spirit calls you and don’t let the fear that comes from Satan stop you. Be proactive in ministry through prayer and learn the skills you need to fulfill the Lord’s direction in your life. You may have to learn how to help those who are suffering through grief and trauma, or addictions. You may need to develop listening skills, understand the youth culture, or develop an understanding of Biblical study that can be useful for teaching.

Prayer: Lord, reveal my Spiritual gifts to me. Give me the courage to step into unknown territory that I might experience true faith and life to the full. Draw me closer to You so Your love in my heart will overcome any fear or doubt of Your power in me. In Jesus name, Amen.
