Know God’s Truth

Posted on

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Matthew 7:13-14

It is imperative that we know God’s truth otherwise we will be susceptible to believing Satan’s lies. We live by God’s Truth and not by popular opinion. Many people are following the broad road to destruction but knowing the Truth keeps us on the narrow road. Satan not only feeds lies to lost souls but he also feeds lies to Christians. It is easy to accept Satan’s lies because they tend to satisfy our fleshly desires.

Jesus told the Pharisees that their father was Satan because they believed Satan’s lies. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! (John 8:44-45). The Pharisees were very prideful people and because of their prideful hearts they didn’t believe the truth from Jesus. It’s the same today. A prideful heart will reject God’s Truth and believe Satan’s lies.

Jesus stated many times, “I tell you the truth” because he knew how many people would believe Satan’s lies. Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:16). It’s the Truth that leads us to the narrow road which leads to life. If there had been any other way the Father would not have sent his Son to the cross.

We have divine understanding knowing the Truth, while lost souls have no understanding because they believe Satan’s lies. It can be difficult to bring the Truth to someone who is comfortably secure believing a lie. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). Satan is a master, masquerading as an angel of light, making it difficult not to believe his lies. These lies are tempting us where our defenses are the weakest leaving us to justify our choices. For this reason we need accountability which helps us examine ourselves against God’s Word so that we do not examine ourselves against our own fleshly desires.

Today, examine yourself to see if Satan has a foot hold in your life, something that may not be pleasing to God. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). Be alert because Satan is always tempting us, seeking to get a foothold. This may be getting angry and impatient while driving, angry with a co-worker, criticizing someone to others, or missing worship. Be careful of your attitude and your words today, and pray for the Lord’s guidance when tempting situations tend to occur.

Let’s Pray: Lord, help me to live in the truth and not yield to any of Satan’s lies today. Let my words and emotions reflect your Truth and not Satan’s lies. Fill my heart with your love, peace, and joy, because they are evidence of your Truth that I can reflect to others. In Jesus’ name, Amen
