Know God’s Infinite Love
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.1 John 3:1
It is important that know the infinite love God has for us. We are finite in nature and it makes it difficult to comprehend infinite love from God. Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. (1 John 4:7) The more of God’s love we have in our hearts, the closer we are to God and the more we realize his love for us.
And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. (1 John 4:16) It’s God’s love in our hearts that changes us, giving us faith and the desire to serve him. Love motivates us to live for Christ, giving him priority in our life. Love motivates us toward Heaven to be with the Father and the Son.
Without a heart filled with the Lord’s love, life is nothing more than struggling to follow the Lord’s commands because we don’t know God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. (1 John 4:8) The Christian life is a life anchored in God’s love, because without love the Bible becomes a list of rules we try to follow through our own will power. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. (Romans 7:22-23)
The love in our hearts from Christ through the Spirit makes the Lord’s commands natural and desirable. Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:1-2) The Holy Spirit changes us, frees us from struggling with God’s laws and makes his laws our new Godly nature. The Bible now describes our new Christ-like character.
Today seek to know the Lord through his Word and reflect his love to others. We know the Word in our mind, but when we live the Word, it goes to our hearts. The more love we reflect to others, the more love fills our hearts and the more we know the Lord.
Prayer: Lord, fill my mind and heart with your infinite love, and guide me in the Spirit to bring your love to others. In Jesus name, Amen
