Keep Moving Forward
Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”Luke 9:62
No one that is traveling down the narrow road to Heaven, turns around and goes back. Looking forward we see the light of God, and looking back we see nothing but darkness. The only thing we remember is the blessing that God and given us in the past, which guides into the future.
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13-14) The apostle Paul was always straining ahead toward Heaven, and he forgets the past and moves toward the future to be with Christ. Our Christian life is motivated to be in Heaven with the Father and the Son, and this earthy life is our one and only chance to be pleasing to God. And since we are straining ahead toward eternity in Heaven, we forget the past because we cannot move both forward and backwards.
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. (1 Corinthians 3:23) The Lord wants us to be motivated to be a light in this world, and bring people to Christ. How can we be motivated to move forward when we are looking back. Living in our past will kill our motivation. Christians anxiously move forward bringing people to Christ, and their motivation comes from a heart of love, that connects us to the Father and the Son.
No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. (1 John 4:12) A heart of love motivates us to be with the Father and the Son, and moves us forward toward our Heavenly home. When we live toward our heavenly home, our life is full and exciting.
One of Satan’s tactics is to move our minds into the past, with the goal to kill our motivations. The Lord tells us to move forward, and Satan tells us to move backwards, just the opposite of what Christ desires for us. We can think about the past for what God has done for us, but we don’t back for any thoughts that are displeasing to God.
Today keep moving forward, being a light for Christ, and know Heaven is your home. Live for Christ each day and that will keep us moving toward Heaven.
Prayer: Lord, help me to motivated to move forward and forget past thoughts that are displeasing to You. In Jesus name, Amen
