It’s Impossible for God to Lie

Posted on

God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. This hope we have as an anchor of the soul.

Hebrews 6:18-19

What does it mean to you that it is impossible for God to lie? Nowhere in the Bible can we find where God lies, his Words are all truth. If we know God cannot lie then we can believe his promises and we can live by his promises. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls (Matthew 11:29). These are the words of Jesus telling us that because he is gentle and humble in heart, we can find rest for our souls. Do we make serving the Lord difficult because we don’t fully believe his promises?

When we decide to walk with the Lord, believe, repent, accept Christ as our Savior, be baptized into Christ, and receive the Holy Spirit, then we are ready to start our Christian lives. You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ (Romans 8:9). Read the Word and follow the Spirit, and be confident that you have received the Holy Spirit as a result of your own belief.

When we begin believing God’s promises we start trying to walk in accordance to his will. A new Christian will basically have a worldly character. The commands in the Bible describe the character of God, and how we can successfully reflect the character of God when we have the character of the world. It’s trying to be someone that we have not yet become. Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). Therefore don’t expect too much success in walking in obedience to God’s will when you first accept Christ. What the Lord wants for all Christians is to be united in a church family. It’s being in the Word, in prayer, and with a church family that helps us to be more Christ-like as we are being renewed to the mind of Christ. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2).

And as our minds are renewed the commands in the Bible begin to reflect our characters. When we believe God’s promises, we walk with rest and relaxation in our souls. We continue in the Word, prayer, and church fellowship, seeking to obey God, and letting him change us with patience. Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus (Philippians 1:6).   We let the Lord change us through the Spirit, because we trust the Lord, we know him, we know he loves us, and we know he cannot lie.

Knowing God cannot lie enables us to fully trust his promises, and this is an anchor to our souls. We can trust his promises, no matter how he answers our prayers or when he answers our prayers. We know that he keeps his promises and answers our prayers based on his divine understanding. Trust God and his ways and live in the fullness of his love and power.

Today let your hope in Christ be an anchor for your soul. Know that God is faithful and true and live by his promises. Trust the Lord knowing that he fulfills his promises as he is molding you to the mind of Christ.

Let’s Pray: Lord I know you are perfectly faithful, because it is impossible for you to lie, and Satan is the father of lies. Let my trust in you forever increase as I continue to learn how great you are: Sovereign God, creator of all things. In Jesus name, Amen
