Importance of the Word

Posted on

He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean.

Revelations 19:13

The verses above tell is when Christ comes to defeat evil in the world, his name is Word of God, telling us that his judgment is based on the Word. We are responsible for knowing the Word and everything we read and hear we compare to the Word. The Word is important because if we live according to the Word we will know God and have eternal life. When we face judgment we cannot say, I learned this from my parents, or my minister said this, or my friends told me this; then Christ will say “What did I tell you?”

The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life. (John 6:63) The Word gives eternal life to our spirit. The Word guides us to accept Christ for taking our sins to the cross and receiving the Holy Spirit. If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. John `4:16-17) The Word is spiritually discerned enabling us to fully understand the words of God.

The Word tells of God’s plan of salvation through Christ and he renews our mind and changes our heart to become the person we were created to be. We cannot earn our way to Heaven, because we cannot be perfect and we cannot stand before God without Christ interceding for us. Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. (Acts 2:20) Christ understands our struggles because he lived on this earth as a man; therefore he forgives us when our hearts seek forgiveness.

The indwelling Holy Spirit changes us by renewing our mind. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. (Romans 12:2) and our heart changes as we obey his Word. When our hearts are filled with God’s love we start to love others. We show our love for God by reflecting God’s love to others, and we are a light for Christ and we cannot do that without knowing the Word. The Word is the language of God and without knowing God’s language it will virtually be impossible to hear Christ. When our hearts are filled with God’s love the Word defines our new character because we have the heart of Jesus.

Today read the Word because it is the language of God and our judgment is based on the Word. The more we know the Word the more we can reflect Christ to the world and the more we know God.

Prayer: Lord, open my heart to receive your divine Word and fill my heart with your love so the Word describes the new me. Help me to be light for Christ with knowledge of you from the Word, and to reflect your love. In Jesus name, Amen
