I Walk with the King

Posted on

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

Galatians 5:16

The title of this Daily Message comes from a song. When I was singing this song the following struck my heart; “I walk and I talk with the King.” Over my fourteen years I am slowly learning to walk and talk with the King and noticing the effect it has on my thinking and on my emotions. Walking and talking with the King is knowing the Lord walks with us, and through the divine power of the Spirit we become more Christ-like.

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (Colossians 3:2). The best way to keep our thoughts in the spiritual is to talk and listen to the Lord, to carry on a dialogue with the Lord as if he were standing beside us. As we continually commune with the Lord the more natural it becomes, and we become better able to hear his thoughts through the Spirit, his Word, and from others.

Walking and talking with the King, helps us to control our thoughts. Whenever our conscious thoughts are taken away, there is a recognition of a secret communion still continuing with the Lord. Whenever Satan tries to pull us away using anger, fear, or any temptation, our thoughts immediately go directly to the Lord, seeking his wisdom and strength to victory. The pleasure of defeating Satan through the power of the Spirit gives us a powerful feeling of victory.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2) Walking and talking with the King drives us to seek his voice through the Word, other Christians, and walking in accordance in his good, pleasing, and perfect will. Our mind is being renewed because we have become very sensitive to the Spirit’s conviction. Satan’s temptations are primarily through our emotions and we respond immediately by going to the Spirit for Godly wisdom. Therefore we are gaining more control over our thoughts and emotions.

The result of walking and talking with the King, helps us to seek him more, through the Word, prayer, fellowship, and obedience. Communing with the Lord drives us toward control of our thoughts and emotions. The power to change our thoughts and emotions to the ways of God is a great blessing, because we can actually change the way we feel emotionally and sometimes physically. Dr. Caroline Leaf states; “You are what you think: 75% to 98% of mental and physical illnesses come from our thought Life!”

Today make a strong effort to walk and talk to the King. Carry on a dialogue of praise, thanks, or guidance. Take moments, ask the Lord questions and listen for thoughts leading to an answer. Keep seeking to hear the Lord’s voice, through thoughts, his Word, or from others. The more you seek to hear the Lord, the more you will hear the Lord. The more we learn the language of the Lord through his Word, the more we recognize the Lord talking to us.

Prayer: Teach me to walk and talk with you, to carry your Word in my heart and to hear your divine words to me. To hear your words directed to me is a blessing beyond words. The God of all creation talking to me, gives a new meaning to being humble. Thank you for knowing me. I can never be worthy of your love, all I can do is seek your help in surrendering my life to you. In Jesus name, Amen
