How to Fight Satan

Posted on

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:57

Satan is our enemy and we fight this spiritual war better if we know his tactics. Satan’s war is against God, and he attempts to hurt God by destroying his creation, people. His tactics are aimed to separate people from God. He wants us to be self-centered and become our own gods. He turns governments to make laws outlawing Christian worship, he infiltrates the church, and he attacks the church with violence. To be victorious in this war we fight on all fronts through the power of our Lord.

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. (2 Corinthians 10:4) The first step in being a spiritual warrior and fighting in the power of our Lord, is to live in victory in our own lives. We must stand strong and courageous as we boldly proclaim God’s light to this dark world. We fight and overcome sin in our lives by living as a witness of Christ. We stand strong with our army of Christian brothers and sisters, and we know if Christ fights for us we will have victory. Victory in Christ is not always victory in the world, because true victory lies in our eternal lives.

Satan’s goal is to make us self-centered and prideful. God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble (1 Peter 5:5). We become our own God when we make choices through our own desires that are not pleasing to God. We must become the Lord’s servant in order to be an effective spiritual warrior in this world. We must step off the throne if we want God’s power in our lives. We pray and it’s the Lord’s responsibility to answer that prayer, and it’s our responsibility to obey the Lord.

The second step is to fight Satan at the governmental level. We do this through prayer and voting to put Christians in office. We tell every Christian to pray and participate in ministries that coordinate national prayer. Prayer is very effective against Satan in this battle, because as the country prays, God enforces his will. Remember all things are possible for God. If we want Godly people in office then Christians must vote, otherwise Satan and his demons will stop at nothing to get his people elected. The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before you. They shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways” (Deuteronomy 28:7).

Satan works his evil as the angel of light within the church. He does this by killing our motivation and spiritual growth, through our own justification and by twisting the truth of God’s word. He continues by filling us with fear, making us complacent, making our love grow cold, making the church less holy and more worldly, and making us our own gods. This is some of the tactics Satan uses against the church, and we need the Lord’s power in the church to fight the spiritual battle.

Satan has people in the world filled with his lies so that they violently attack, torture, and kill Christians. The greatest victory we can ever have is to die for Christ. Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. (Matthew 10:28). We have nothing to fear because heaven is our home. Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. (Matthew 5:12) However, we do take measures to protect the church through a number of our own security techniques. And we always pray for God’s protection, strength, and wisdom.

Today, be aware of Satan’s tactics and his goal to separate you from God. See his tactics every time you are tempted and call on the Lord for victory. Refuse to let Satan steal your soul, but rebuke him with confidence in the Lord and with a heart of love and faith.

Let’s Pray: Lord, thank you for giving me your power to fight Satan’s lies, knowing there is victory in Christ. Lord, I pray for every heart that will listen to the truth and turn to Christ. Guide me to people who will listen to the truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
