How Important are Our Thoughts?

Posted on

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Colossian 3:2

Our thoughts are critically important; they can affect our health, drive our words and actions, drive our emotions, and reveal our heart to God. Does God give us the power to control our thoughts and the power to change our thoughts? And does he give us the power to prevent the world around us from taking control of thoughts and emotions? What would it be like if we had divine power to control our thoughts?

Our thoughts can affect our health because we are designed by God to have a mind of love and hope. Therefore anger, fear, unforgiveness is toxic to our mind and body and can over time cause physical problems and diseases. Satan’s attacks us with fear because he knows it keeps us from doing God’s will, and fear can cause health problems and can weaken our immune system. Therefore when your thoughts are leaning toward fear, anger, or unforgiveness; change the thought to a pleasant comfortable Godly thought. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).

If we entertain a negative thought such and anger or fear, it will be reflected in our attitude and in our words and actions. How we think can affect others our around us when our negative thoughts lead us to a critical attitude. Control your thoughts because they can lead to words that damage relationships.

In a previous Daily Message, Jan 10, 2019, it talks about how our thoughts can drive our emotions. And if we change our thoughts, we can control our emotions. This is extremely powerful and great advantage to us, the power to change our feelings! Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7). Give your undesirable feelings to the Lord and walk with a heart and mind of peace, as you trust the Lord to guide you through the day in his love, strength, and wisdom.

Today take control of your thoughts whenever a negative thought, such as fear, anger, or unforgiveness occurs, and change it to Godly thought. Be in control of your mind and refuse to let it be controlled by the world, but controlled by the power of our loving God. Today walk in peace and refuse to let Satan force your mind into anger, impatience, fear, or any negative thought.

Prayer: Lord, give me your power to control my thoughts and my emotions. Keep me from being a slave to the world but to be free in Christ. Guide me to reflect a heart of love and peace, with an attitude that has overcome the world, revealing freedom in Christ. In Jesus name, Amen
