Heaven is Your Home

Posted on

For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.

Hebrews 13:14

Heaven is our eternal home living with the Father and the Son on the new earth where life is better than we can ever imagine.  Our life on earth is the only chance we have for our name to be in the book of life. The Word tells us how to live pleasing God; it’s not about pleasing self but about pleasing God.

If we live by the Word, God will mold our minds and hearts to that of Christ, and we become closer to the Lord.  The closer we are to the Lord, the more we desire to be with Him in Heaven. If we really knew how great Heaven is, it would change our hearts to live for Christ.  But Satan keeps our thoughts on this life because he doesn’t want us to think about Heavenly life.

See, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind. (Isaiah 65:17) When we enter Heaven, it’s a new life centered on the Father and the Son. There will be perfect love between everyone coming from the Father and the Son. The old earthly life will not be remembered which is a blessing because of lost souls and tragic events that occur in this world.  Our motivation for Heaven comes from our desire to be with the Father and the Son.  We are getting closer to the Lord in this life and we love Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Our motivation to be in Heaven with the Father and the Son makes endurance in this life easier. We will endure anything because our reward is eternal. Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. (Matthew 10:28) Knowing Heaven is our home means we never die, only the flesh dies but our soul continues to live.  Our soul is spiritual, and it is our thoughts, personality, and emotions, while our flesh is our interface to the world. When we leave this world, we no longer need our earthly flesh.

Knowing in our hearts that Heaven is our home helps us live by the Spirit and not by our fleshly desires. Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. (Romans 8:5) Our hearts now reveal thoughts from the Spirit and not from the world, and we interface to the world through the Spirit.

Today, be mindful that Heaven is your permanent home, and this world is your temporary home. Live today for your eternal life, for this life is our only chance to get our names in the book of life.

Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, for putting eternity in my heart, and let the Heavenly life drive my thoughts, words, and actions in this life. The purpose of this life is to please You so Heaven will be my eternal home.  In Jesus’ name, Amen
