Have a Thankful Heart

Posted on

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

God wants to us to have a thankful heart, not for his benefit because God is totally self-sufficient, but thankfulness is a blessing to us. A thankful heart brings us closer to God and makes us more dependent on Him.

Thanking God, praising God, worshipping God, is for our benefit, because it brings us closer to God, give us a better understanding of God and his love for us. Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) The more of a thankful heart we have, the more we will rejoice and pray, because a thankful heart will lift us up and increase our security in the Lord.

We commune with the Lord during our day with a thankful heart, and we always give thanks in our prayers. A thankful heart means we are living with thankfulness to God. We can always be thankful for what Christ did to reconcile us to God, so we can have eternal life in Heaven. Christ was spit on, beaten, flogged, and crucified for our sins. And he never said an angry word; he asked the Father to forgive those who crucified him, he ask John to take care of his mother, and the other man on the cross, he said he would see him paradise.

Praise the Lord!  Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting. (Psalm 106:1) We are thankful for what the Lord is doing for us each day. We are filled with the Holy Spirit, the Father and the Son make their home with us, and we have the blessing of being guided through life by Christ into our Heavenly home. Every day of life we should be more thankful.

The Bible is full of verses telling us to be thankful, so it must be very important that we have a thankful heart, because it so shows our love to the Father and the Son. And a thankful heart motivates us to be a servant of Christ, because he died for our sins, and we owe our eternal life to Christ.

Today make an effort to be thankful for everything, and be thankful that the Lord is with you.  And always be thankful that Heaven is your home, only because we have forgiveness from Christ, who intercedes for us to the Father.

Prayer: Father, fill my heart with faithfulness because it is the love from you and Christ that saved me.  In Jesus name, Amen
