Have a Serving Heart

Posted on

The greatest among you shall be your servant.

Mathew 23:11

We are predestined to conform to the image of Jesus, therefore it is natural for us to be a servant. Our identity is in Christ, and we are to conform to the image of His Son.  For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son. (Romans 8:29)

Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. (Philippians 2:6-7) Christ was a servant and we are predestined to be a servant. If we want live the way God created us, then we will be a servant.

Satan will try anything to keep us from being a servant, because he doesn’t want us to live as Jesus lived on this earth. Jesus is our model for the life we were created to live, and when we live as created, we will experience life to the full. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:10) Satan can deceive us without us even knowing, and we pray the Lord will help us overcome any deception in our life.

The word “servant” occurs 1,068 times in the Bible, therefore it is important that we live our life as a servant. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” (1 Peter 5:5) If there is any pride in our life it can hinder our servant’s heart. We are created to have our identity in Christ, and that enables us to have a humble servant heart like Jesus.

Today show a humble secure heart that reflects Christ to everyone in every situation. Live today with self-control, and beware that Satan will try to control our emotions.

Prayer: Father, help me to always have self-control and live as servant. In Jesus name, Amen
