Guided by the Spirit
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations I will be exalted in the earth.”
Psalm 46:10
The Holy Spirit is a spiritual voice that places a thought in our minds, or changes the attitude of our heart. We must be still inside and listen for the Spirit because if our mind is busy on worldly things, it can difficult to hear the Spirit.
For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. (Romans 8:14) The purpose of the Spirit is to guide us through each day serving Christ. But in this fast-paced society we live in, makes it difficult to hear the Spirit’s guidance. If we know the Word which is the language of God, we can walk according to the Word, but we still need the Spirit’s guidance when ministering and overcoming a sinful thought or behavior.
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. (John 16:13) The Spirit will prompt us if we drift from the Truth, and if we are planning something in the future the Spirit will guide us. I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me. (Acts 20:23) Paul listened intently to the Spirit, and the Spirit told him about his future imprisonment. If we pray and listen to Spirit about some upcoming event, the Spirit may give us an uneasy feeling, and give reasons for the uneasy feelings in our thoughts.
For he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, Christ speaks to us through the Spirit and we speak to Christ through the Spirit. The more we strive to hear the Spirit, and pray for the Lord’s help in hearing the Spirit, then over time we will be in-tune with the Spirit. We will depend on Christ to guide us through the Spirit through each step of our day. We can go through our day with no thought of the Spirit, but imagine what might be different if we were guided by the Spirit?
Today be still inside and pray that you will hear the Spirit in our thoughts or have a change of your heart’s desire. Keep seeking to the hear the Spirit and keep praying for the Lord’s help.
Prayer: Lord help me to be guided by the Spirit and to be sensitive to the Spirits prompting. To be sensitive to uneasy feelings and uneasy thoughts from the Spirit. In Jesus name, Amen
