God, the Great Comforter

Posted on

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.

1 Corinthians 1:3-4

No one can comfort us in times of trouble like our Lord can through the Holy Spirit. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.(John 16:13)  The Lord comforts us through the Spirit when we go to him in prayer, through his Word, or through fellowship with other Christians, and his comfort and peace fills our minds and hearts

Let your steadfast love comfort me according to your promise to your servant. (Psalm 119.76) We are the Lord’s servant, we are his eternal family; and God comforts those in his family and the more we comfort others the more comfort we receive.  God’s love in our hearts overcomes fear, and as fear decreases comfort increases. Knowing God’s love is in our hearts and Heaven is our home, gives us comfort.

Satan is always attacking us trying to fill us with his fear making us worried, uncomfortable, and impatient.  This is when we go the Lord in prayer and his Word and seek his divine power to overcome Satan’s evil attack.  Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7).  Our Lord has power over Satan and he has given us power over Satan, but we call on the Lord to use his power through us. You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. (1 John 4:4)  The indwelling Holy Spirit gives us the Lord’s power because we are connected to the Lord thorough the Spirit, and when we call on the Lord the Spirit gives us the power to overcome Satan’s attacks.

Today pray and read the word, write down a scripture and take it with you to read when needed. Be prepared to overcome moments of Satan’s attack with prayer and scripture, it’s the Lord who fights our battles when we call on him.

Prayer:  Lord I will be comforted by your Word today and I call on you when Satan attacks with his fear.  I will live with victory in Christ today and walk with peace and joy that I can reflect to others. In Jesus name, Amen
