Does God Test Us?

Posted on

The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold, and the Lord tests hearts

Proverbs 17:3

Through trials and tribulations we grow spiritually as God molds us to the mind of Christ. How might our attitudes change if we were to view these struggles as tests from God? Could this view cause us to be more optimistic; to have a victorious view of the Lord’s blessings?

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28). Truly believing this verse can greatly help us whenever we face a trial. We have a promise from God that He will work all situations for our good and for his glory if we strive to walk according to his purposes. Walking in the Lord’s will is walking in his love as he leads us through life with his power and love working in us. We have nothing to fear when we trust the Lord to guide us through the trials in our lives.

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him (Hebrews 11:6). I cannot over emphasize the importance of living in the faith that pleases God. When we trust the Lord to guide us through life, stepping off of our own thrones, our lives take a giant step toward freedom in Christ. God is now pleased with our faith and he is active in our lives making all things good for us as we continue to pray and to walk in his good, pleasing, and perfect will. This is freedom in Christ.

When we face trials in our lives, the true test is whether or not we trust God to guide us. Do we trust him or do we become our own gods and guide ourselves? Getting through the trial is not the test. The test is whether or not we trust God or ourselves. When we trust God to guide us through the Spirit we will be victorious, but if we trust ourselves who knows what the outcome may be?

Today, as you face the world, see it as a test. Ask yourself, will I trust the Lord or rely on my own understanding? Trusting the Lord through all tests, big or small, will be pleasing to him and will result in spiritual growth. You will be victorious as you become more Christ-like.

Let’s Pray:   Lord, guide me through every obstacle Satan puts in my path. Help me to see it as a test, knowing I will be victorious in Christ. Help me to continue to have more faith, trusting you with my life. Take away anything in my life that is not pleasing to you, and bring me closer to you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
