God Knows Our Hearts

Posted on

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the heart.

Proverbs 21:2

If we judge ourselves, we can be biased causing us to be right in our own eyes.  God is our judge and He looks at our hearts which is reflected by our thoughts. He is concerned about what motivates us to serve Christ. We are predestined to conform to the image of His Son (Romans 8:29), so we should be motivated the same way as Jesus was motivated.

Jesus was motivated by a heart of love for the Father and for all people. Jesus’ heart of love was stronger than his fear of going to the cross and carrying the sins of the world.  No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father. (John 10:18) Jesus was not forced to die for the sins of the world — he chose to die for our sins because his heart was filled with love.  He wanted to please the Father by taking our sins to the cross and offering us salvation. The Father sent his Son to die for our sins revealing how much the Father wants us to be with Him in Heaven.

If you love me, keep my commands. (John 14:15) From this verse, we see that love motivates us to keep the Lord’s commands.  God’s unconditional agape love in our hearts is the strongest motivator to serve the Lord and to bring Christ to the world. With our hearts filled with this love, all the commands in the Bible become the desire of our hearts.

Many people are dying today as a martyr rather than denying Christ because their hearts are filled with God’s love.  They know at their last breath when their spirit leaves the body, it goes to be with Christ. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. (Philippians 1:21) We have overcome death because we know Heaven is our home, and love motivates us to be with the Father and the Son.

A heart for God is filled with love for the Father, for the Son, and for all humanity. Our hearts hurt for all souls that don’t know Christ, and we pray for guidance to lost souls.  Our thoughts are eternally minded and we care about the eternal life of others. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (Colossians 3:2)

Today, know the Lord listens to our hearts because it reveals the motivation for everything we do. If we have a heart for God, then everything in our thoughts is about living for Christ which is the most fulfilling life on the planet.

Prayer: Lord, give me a pure heart so all my thoughts are pleasing to you. Keep changing my heart by filling it with your divine love because a heart of love brings me closer to you.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
